This year when you are celebrating Independence Day by watching the sky light up in bright bursts of color remember that this day commemorates how the United States gained the freedom to support itself and become an independent nation. Supporting fair trade means supporting working independence of farmers, artisans, builders, crafters and laborers around the world by providing them safe working conditions and the wages to care for their families and build a life upon. Here are a few ways you can use fair trade products to celebrate the Fourth of July in style while helping others gain their independence as well!

ImageOff to a barbecue potluck with friends or a family reunion this holiday and not sure what to bring? How about some delicious pasta salad made with Equal Exchange Fair Trade Olive Oil?

If you’re in charge of dessert Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream is always a crowd favorite and every flavor is proudly stamped with that fair trade logo like a badge of honor.

Maybe you are more interested in providing refreshments for the day’s festivities? Mongozo’s Exotic Banana Beer has that sweet taste of summer and social responsibility in every fair trade bottle. If you’re looking for something with a little more punch to go with those booming fireworks perhaps Papagayo’s Organic Rum will spark your interest? Here’s a recipe for a patriotic array of red, white and blue daiquiris that are gaurenteed to get everyone into the holiday spirit(s)–pun intended.

Gifts that Give Back

23 Nov
Thanksgiving is just two days away…which means Black Friday, the kick off to the Holiday shopping season, is right around the corner. The holidays are a time for reconnecting with family and friends. They are also a time to connect with our global community. When you support Fair Trade, you become part of a network of people dedicated to facilitating change for disadvantaged artisans and their families around the world.

A Fair Trade gift for a family member, friend or even for yourself provides the gift of steady employment  and stability for the artisans. We are excited to represent Fair Trade and are always thrilled when mainstream media showcases Fair Trade to help spread the good word. SELF Magazine liked our Tagua bracelets so much, they’ve included them in their Holiday issue this month!

Just in time for a Fair Trade Holiday!

11 Nov

We are very excited to introduce yet another fantastic fair trade and eco-friendly product line- just in time for the holidays! Each collection has five different angels to choose from. CLICK HERE  to see the full collection.

The Orange Peel Angels are created using 100% recycled orange peel captured from Colombia’s thriving street juice vendors; these unique angels represent the best of combining Fair Trade with eco-friendly. The range of green and orange color of the sterilized recycled peel highlights the natural quality of each handmade angel… plus they smell great too!

Orange Peel Angel

Corn husk dolls have been popular in Colombian culture for centuries, and our beautiful Fair Trade Angels will bring that tradition into your home this year. Each handmade angel is made from natural corn husk and wood, and adorned with a recycled orange peel accent – a nice touch!

Corn Husk Angel

These angels are hand-shaped from a traditional Colombian mixture of corn flour, water and paste. No die or mold is used, so each angel is unique to the women artisan’s hands who shaped it. A modern design using a classic process.

Each angel is approximately 3” tall with a 2 ½” loop. A great ornament or collectible!
